The Godby Cougars sent a clear reminder to everyone in attendance at Gene Cox Stadium why they were the two-time defending city champs on Friday night. With a 48-7 drubbing of rival Leon, the Cougar offensive unit lead by RB P.J. Simmons and QB Darius Bradwell, scored on nearly every possession in the first half. With 8:09 left in the second quarter Leon found themselves staring at a 34-0 deficit. Bradwell finished the night with 130 yards passing and 117 yards on the ground while Simmons added another 110 yards rushing.

Godby defensive back Jacoby Wood lays a hit on would be Leon receiver.

Equally impressive was the Godby defense, who easily handled Leon standout ATH D’Anfernee McGriff and kept the Lions to a single touchdown. The Cougars d-line made a home in Leon’s backfield while the rest of the unit caused a series of turnovers and 3-and-outs for the Lions, which was highlighted by a 30 yard fumble return for a score by DB Jacoby Wood.

Next week Leon will host Crestview while Godby will have the week off before a big district game at Wakulla.
