With the 2011 Class A State Championship already under their belts, stars Alphonso Footman and Denzel Whitfield sign national letters of intent with Northern Arizona and Florida Atlantic respectively. Whitfield who anchored the Tigers defensive line, wreaked havoc on opposing offenses and was a dominant force in Jefferson County’s playoff run.
Three-year starter Alphonso Footman would be considered “Mr. Versatility” on the Tigers 2011 squad as he began the season as the teams starting quarterback (replacing his brother who suffered a broken leg) before moving to tail-back later in the season. The highly athletic Footman also starred at defensive back and played the previous season at wide-out where he notched big numbers on both sides of the ball.
