The annual holiday known to college football fans across the country as National Signing Day, has its own level of significance on the campus of Lincoln high school. 7 Trojans added to the growing list of Lincoln standouts by inking grant aids and scholarships to the colleges of their choice. The auditorium had a large gathering of faculty, students, family members and well wishers, all of whom were dressed for the occasion, along with cake and punch waiting for each signee after the event.
A surprising moment added some drama to the festivities when Trojan receiver Ralph Andrades chose the Florida Gators over Arkansas and Kentucky. A three-year starter for the Trojans, Andrades had been a staple in the potent Lincoln offense. Needless to say, the rest of the ceremony went off with out a “hitch”. Two other prominent members of the high-flying offensive unit that averaged 40 points per game were D.J. Abner (Liberty), Ronald “Beezy” Butler (Tennessee State). Rounding-out the days events were standout signees FB Casey Branton, FB/ILB Eric Childs, OL Trevin Huff, and DL Josh Gilmore.
In the past Lincoln has made a national name for their program by producing stellar student-athletes who’ve signed with prominent schools across the country. This years class proves to be no different. From California to Gainesville, this 2012 class of 7 will depart Tallahassee to continue their education and play college football. “I enjoy this because it’s all about the kids.” Lincoln Head Coach Yusuf Shakir stated. The Trojans aren’t finished yet with this years crop of recruits, as there are expectations to sign 2-3 additional student-athletes after National Signing Day. The Lincoln community has plans to announce them later in the month.
