Although the Cowboys lost a host of talented seniors to graduation from 2016’s regional championship squad, head coach Mike Coe expressed plenty of excitement coming into this year’s spring practices. “We’ve got some really good kids this year,” said Coe who is in his 7th season at the helm. “We got a real good senior class and I’m really excited about our freshman class.” With 6 returning starters on either side of the ball the no-nonsense Cowboys will look to be as explosive as ever on offense with a punishing ground attack. Lineman Tarron Johnson (OL) and Ahmod Powell (OL) will be called to lead the charge up front while running back Terion Henderson (RB) will be tough on opposing defenders. Tight end Darrius Johnson will be a tough target to bring down and will add another offensive threat for Madison County. The Cowboys are never without defensive standouts and this year will be no different as the team features returners Tay Hodge (DB) at safety, Johnathan Alexander (LB) at linebacker and defensive back Travis Jay who will also play at quarterback. There aren’t any questions about the toughness of this years team but don’t be surprised if a few young leaders emerge at key positions.
