It was another hot and humid Thursday night in Tallahassee as Rickards fought off a late rally from visiting Fort Walton Beach, winning 23-13. The Raiders, who improve to 3-1 on the season, capitalized early on several Viking miscues to take an early 10-0 lead and found plenty of opportunities to score. Lead on the ground by RB Deion Hogan, who finished with 86 yards on 14 carries, The Raiders rushing attack found ways to gash the Fort Walton defense to setup scoring opportunities. Raider QB D.J. Phillips chipped in with 63 yards rushing while throwing for 78 yards with 8 completions and two touchdowns. Standout WR Kalin Riles was on the receiving end of both of Phillips scoring passes as he accounted for 5 receptions for 67 yards.
Rickards can credit it’s defense for the win as the Raiders suffocated the Vikings offense for nearly the entire ballgame. “Defensively I think we’re playing well,” said Raider head coach Quintin Lewis. “My assistant coach Hogan is doing a great job of preparing those guys every week.” Linebacker Jordan Brownlee lead all Raider defenders with 7 tackles and the Defensive unit forced 4 sacks on the night. “We still have a lot to do offensively and on special teams to beat some of the better teams but we’re gonna enjoy this victory.” said Lewis.
Up next for the Raiders will be an away game against crosstown rival Lincoln.
