It was a memorable season with many highlights by some of the best student-athletes from some of the best teams in the state of Florida. Listed below is the 4Quartersonline.com Players of the Year and Superlatives.

2011 4Q PLAYER OF THE YEAR: MATT DOBSON – NORTH FLORIDA CHRISTIAN

Dobson, the 6-foot-1, 205 pound quarterback, is a very talented pass of the football, but his best attributes may be his knowledge of the game and his ability to extend the play with his legs. He puts a very nice spin on the football and throws with accuracy. When necessary, he shows off his athleticism and picks up a great deal of yards with his legs. Dobson, who has 4.54 40-yard dash speed, threw for 2,509 yards and 26 touchdowns and ran for 828 yards and 15 touchdowns for NFC.

Georgia Southern commit Matt Dobson lead the NFC Eagles to the Class 2A state title and an undefeated season. Dobson also lit up the scoreboard with his ability to be effective passing and running.

 

2011 4Q DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: KADEEM “PONCHO” THOMAS – GODBY

A tackling machine for the Godby Cougars. Thomas racked up 142 tackles as a senior and helped his team to a 9-3 record and a spot in the second round of the state playoffs. With a total of 143 stops as a junior, ranking sixth in the state in tackles, Thomas was named the Area Defensive Player of the Year. One of the nation’s top 40 inside linebackers by Rivals.com, 24/7 Sports and ESPN. Kadeem played for the winning North team in the Florida North-South All-Star Game sponsored by the Florida Athletic Coaches Association.

The anchor of the Cougar defense, Kadeem "Poncho" Thomas was a force to be reckoned with by opposing offenses. The Godby 3-year starter committed to play for the Kentucky Wildcats.

 

2011 4Q OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: LEE WILLIAMS – MACLAY

He is the school’s first football signee and He also holds every rushing record in the, albeit short, history of Maclay football. And yet Lee Williams had only finished 5 complete games in the 2011 season. Known for his amazing speed on the track as well as the 2,000 plus yards he notched on the football field, Lee Williams alongside his parents, put on a green Florida A&M cap which served as an exclamation point to a stellar high school athletic career. “Lee is a tremendous young man.”, Exclaimed Maclay Marauder head coach Kyler Hall. “He’s a four year varsity letterman and hes always set an example for his teammates. He always gives his offensive linemen the credit. He’s a very humble young man and a leader.”

Maclay speedster Lee Williams is a 2-sport star at Maclay where he owns several school records in track and in football. Williams committed to FAMU on signing day.

 

“MR. VERSATILE” AWARD: ALPHONSO FOOTMAN – JEFFERSON COUNTY

Award given to the student-athlete who posses the unique ability to play at a high level from almost any position on the field.

Three-year starter, Alphonso Footman was a devastating weapon for state champion Jefferson County. A threat at running-back, wide-out quarterback and defensive-back, Footman will play for Northern Arizona.

 

“POWER PLAYER” AWARD: DEJUAN HOLTON – FAMU HIGH

Given to the student-athlete who on the field efforts are a considerable factor behinds his teams success.

DeJuan Holton led the Big-Bend in rushing for most of the 2011 season with 1,403 yards and 21 touchdowns. Holton was a member of Team Florida in the War of the Border All-Star Game.

 

“IMPACT PLAYER” AWARD: DALLAS GRIFFTHS – NORTH FLORIDA CHRISTIAN

Given to the student-athlete who’s presence on the field causes a notable shift in game play for his team and their opponents.

ESPN pegged Dallas Griffiths as "a linebacker with dominating strength when taking on blockers at the point of attack." Griffths chose to play at Liberty over several other colleges.

 

“MR. CLUTCH” AWARD: RAPHAEL ANDRADES – LINCOLN

Given to the student-athlete who has the unique ability to consistently make big plays in key situations.

A dangerous "deep-threat" wide-out for the Trojans, Raphael Andrades sure hands helped Lincoln secure the 2010 state title. Andrades committed to play for the Florida Gators.

 

UNDERCLASSMEN OF THE YEAR: JONATHAN VICKERS – NORTH FLORIDA CHRISTIAN

Given to the most outstanding underclassmen student-athlete of any position in our area.

No other Big-Bend sophomore can claim over 1,500 yards rushing with 16 touchdowns and a state title. Jonathan Vickers 127 yards per game average led NFC to a 7th championship.

 

“THE SECRET WEAPON” AWARD: MO WILLIAMS – GODBY

Though he may play with other notable talent, this award goes to the student-athlete who has quietly but steadily made a big impact.

The leading receiver on his team, averaging 16 yards per catch, Mo Williams was a constant threat to opponents for Godby. Williams efforts drew interest from Savannah State and NW Oklahoma State.

 

COMEBACK ATHLETE OF THE YEAR: JACOB GRAY – FLORIDA HIGH

Awarded to the student-athlete who had the biggest impact for his team after missing significant playing time due to injury.

After missing the entire 2010 season with a torn ACL, Jacob Gray returned to the Florida High roster at defensive back 2011. Gray's on the field play earned a scholarship offer from NW Oklahoma State.

 

ACADEMIC ATHLETE OF THE YEAR: HAL WEAVER – SUWANNEE

Given to the student-athlete who has maintained the highest GPA on his team while showing great dedication to other academic areas throughout his career.

A starting offensive lineman for the Suwannee Bulldogs, Hal Weaver was touted not only for his high GPA but also described by his coaches as an "Academic leader and example for his teammates."

 

GAME OF THE YEAR: WAKULLA vs. PASCO: 5A STATE SEMI-FINAL
(Wakulla 41 – Pasco 38 triple overtime)

While every contest my have several key moments or big plays, This award is given to the team that overcomes adversity on the biggest stage to claim a signature win.
