Head Coach: Frankie Carroll

Team  2009 Outlook: One of the states perennial power-house programs looks to be in a re-building year. This fact, however, didn’t seem to affect the voters decision though. Madison is still Madison. In most folks eyes, one should never underestimate them. This is one of the youngest teams that the Cowboys have had in recent years. The lost of  FSU signees RB Chris Thompson and DT Jacobi McDaniel didn’t leave the cupboard completely bare. The offense will be lead by Juniors QB Kelvin Singletary and RB Marterius McDaniel (younger brother Of Jacobi McDaniel). On defense, Juniors LB Charles Phillips and LB Coydrick Williams along with senior DB Will Turner will be poised to keep the winning tradition going.

QB Clint Trickett has been honing his passing skills all summer and looks like he is ready to lead this bunch to another explosive season behind a huge offensive line anchored by offensive lineman Drew Gentry. The defense will be lead by senior LB Josh Major and sophomore DB Travis Blanks. 2008 was a banner year for the Eagles, but they will not be satisfied until they make it back to Orlando.

Williams did it all for the Lions last season by running, receiving and playing corner. He also contributed over 1500 yards of total offense. He will have to step it up this season to replace offensive weapons Dantin and Green. Helms will anchor on both sides of the line at tackle and nose guard, along with leading the newcomers on the line. Even though the defense will miss Mizzel and Carter, Coach Ragans (who is a defensive specialist) should have the lions ready. Last season this team made some giant steps with 8 wins

Tricketts have unique recruiting experience

FSU offensive line coach, Rick, helps his son, senior NFC QB Clint, find the right college

By Steve Ellis • DEMOCRAT SENIOR WRITER • August 23, 2009

The conversation between the visiting prospect’s family and the interested college coach began typically enough. But at some point Clint Trickett understood the inevitable would happen. That’s because his father wasn’t just any father to head coaches such as Arkansas’ Bobby Petrino.

Dad was respected Florida State offensive line coac

h Rick Trickett, and well-known to recruiters from Arkansas, Louisville, Georgia and Wake Forest.

“They tried to do their best that he was a recruit’s father and not a fellow coach,” Clint Trickett said. “They tried their best but they always ended talking football there at the end. I was pretty much expecting that.”

The North Florida Christian senior, considered by some recruiting analysts as the state’s best quarterback, flew with his father to Arkansas during the spring to watch the Razorbacks work out for two days. On a previous trip there with his mother, Tara, he was offered a scholarship.

Rick Trickett also accompanied his son to Louisville, Georgia, Auburn and Wake Forest – all but Wake Forest for camps.

The highly sought recruit, who led NFC to the Class 1A state title last season, also took trips to Florida and South Florida, both FSU opponents this season. On those trips, dad stayed home while mom accompanied Clint.

“He didn’t want to cause any problems,” Clint said.

Plus, Clint Trickett has found his mother to be a valued participant on trips that also included his stops at Louisville and Auburn.

“She knows a lot of football. She’s been in the game just as long as my dad,” he said. “She pointed out some good stuff to me and I’ll listen to her, too.”

FAMU HIGH Offensive Line

Team 2009    Outlook : The 2009 version of the Baby Rattlers are an interesting group, with the loss of college signees RB  Donte Payne (North Carolina A&T, LB Willie Ferrell (FAMU) and Alex Williams (Ole Miss). The Rattlers won’t look the same. FAMU should be as good or better than last season, despite the losses. With QB Mike Melvin, RB Jordan Stanley, WR Leonard Barrington and OL Ian Howard, the offense should be explosive. The defense will be lead by SS Breil Hill, DE Alex Watson, DT Issac Manning and DT Derrick Holmes.

Amos P. Godby High Mascot: Cougars                     godbyhelmet11

Class 2A District 1

2008 Regular season record: 8-2

2008 District record : 4-0

Head Coach: Shelton Crews

Team 2009 Outlook: This season will not be an easy one, but coach Crews and staff are ready for the task. The replacements of QB A.J. Graham (Marshall) and WR Willie Downs will play a key role, but this year’s offense has more than a few players that can take up the slack. RB Lovorrie Johnson lead the team in rushing with over a 1000 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. Up front, Center Justin Norman and OT Montae Jones will open the holes on the offensive line. WR Chris St Hilaire and TE Michael Ethridge will be the targets in the Cougar passing attack. On the opposite side of the ball, the Cougar defense will be lead by NT Jericho Lee, who is the teams’ leading returning tackler, with 119 from the 2008 season. LB’s Rodney Busch, Quinton Allen and Montreal Barnes are big contributors-from last years state runner-up team. Senior DB William Davis will be called upon to lead the secondary. This football season the Cougars will be tested every week as they try to handle one of the toughest schedules in the in the Tallahassee area.

Players to Watch: TE/ DE Kamerin Davis, RB Lavorrie Johnson, TE Michael Etheridge, WR/DB William Davis, NT Jericho Lee, OLB Rodney Busch, OL Juwan Floyd, OL Montae Jones, C Justin Norman, WR/LB Quinton Allen, DE  Montreal Barnes

Strengths: Return 6 on offense and 7 on defense from a 12-3 team in 2008 that finished the season as the 3A State Runner-up. Godby Head Coach Shelton Crews stated that “We will be young at QB and LB.  If the kids at those positions progress we have a chance to be very successful. We lost some great players but we return a good nucleus of experienced players.”

Weaknesses: Young at QB and LB, tough schedule due to the realignment of the district and traditional foes that decided not to play them. Every team they play this year outside of their district is a 3A or 4A team. Seven of their ten games are against playoff teams in 2008.  Playing larger schools, the Cougars’ health has to be a concern.

Head Coach Scott Klees and his staff have their work cut out for them, by playing the likes of Lincoln and Leon in district 3. The success of the offense will depend on the efforts of OL John Cooper, RB Lorenzo Randolph along with a host of young players who are expected to contribute. On the defensive side of the ball, LB Tyler Schmidt and FS Antonio Kilpatrick will have to take charge.img_6759

At the beginning of the of the 2008 season no one had any idea that Coach Bradwell’s squad was prepared to have a 8-2 season. This year, like last, the verdict is still out. Replacing All-American defensive tackle Gary Brown and QB Antonio Bostic will be tough. This year’s version of the Panthers has our voters somewhere in the middle, thinking if it’s possible or not to repeat the success of last year. Newcomer WR La Rico Dickey and FB Dustin Chason will have to carry an inexperience group this fall.

No voter had them in the same place. Last season the Jaguars barely missed the playoffs, losing in the play-in game against Rickards. This team could very well be a top 10 team by the end of the season. With RB Montez   Fryson  and  NG Kelvin Ray leading the Jaguars they could pull a few upsets.
