4Q Signing Day 2011: Lincoln

For the second time this spring the Lincoln Trojans celebrated signing day in their school auditorium where so many athletes had made commitments to play college football. This current group of signees brought the total to 9 this year for Lincoln. Jerell Gallon (Iowa Central JC), Ron Mills (Coffeyville JC), Aaron Davis (Dean JC) Kelvin Musgrove (Dean JC) and  Rod Washington (Dean JC) all signed their letters of intent in front of a host of family members, classmates and teachers.

“We feel like that there’s always an opportunity for kids to play at the next level,… If a kid expresses an interest in playing college football, we here at Lincoln, will try and do what ever is necessary for them to succeed.” Head Coach Yusuf Shakir said after the ceremony. Shakir’s bunch has certainly jumped at the chance to play at the next level.  With 3 players heading to Dean Junior College in Franklin, Massachusetts, the Trojan’s tradition of hard work will be represented well by Davis, Musgrove and Washington. When asked about heading off to college with his high school teammates Aaron Davis responded “We’re all like brothers. We’re going to go up there and continue to push each other hard.”

Lincoln’s top defensive player from the 2010 championship team, Ron Mills, was all smiles as he thanked his family and spoke about his choice to play at Coffeyville. “My cousin played there and he told me that it was a good school”, said Mills. Standout Jerrell Gallon based his decision on how much Iowa Central’s program resembled Lincoln’s. “One of the biggest reasons I chose to go to Iowa Central is because even though it’s up north, it still felt like home.”

4Q Signing Day 2011: East Gadsden

On the 2nd day of spring football practices for the 2011 season, the East Gadsden Jaguars put a nice lid on a successful 2010 year, as standouts Adrian Williams and Adam Powell signed letters of intent to play college football at Livingstone College. Head Coach Corey Fuller recognized the parents and family members involved and went on to say “Having these two young men sign scholarships is like watching my own children…”

Powell (defensive end) and Williams (strong safety) started on the Jaguar defense and described the experience as both a “great opportunity” and a result of plenty of “hard work”. Fuller also spoke of the rewards of “doing things right” and the importance of representing Gadsden county at the next level.
