FINAL: MADISON CO. 28 – LEON 14

The Leon Lions fell to a very persistent Madison County Cowboy squad here at Leon’s Bobby Benson Field on Friday night.  After jumping out to an early lead, Leon showed signs of upsetting Madison. The Lions were able to contain the potent Cowboy running game early in the 1st half.

The Trojans managed to grind out a 16 – 6 win over the Seminoles in a very wet and hard-fought game last Thursday night. The soggy turf at Gene Cox Stadium added another hurdle for both squads as plenty of big hits were exchanged.

Rickards rolls to a strong win over East Gadsden: 34 – 6

The Rickards Raiders took advantage of the offensive miscue’s made by the East Gadsden Jaguars en route to a commanding 34 – 6 victory on Friday night at Gene Cox Stadium.

After halftime, it had been all Raiders as they lead the Jaguars 20 – 0 on the shifty moves of Raider QB #4 T. Johnson. Also in on the action for the Rickards offense were WR #8 B. Denmark and WR #2 J. Bush. There was plenty of hard-hitting action as both teams were looking to make big plays and capitalize on the others mistakes.

In the end the Raiders proved to be too much for the Jaguars as time ticked away late in the 4th quarter. Powerful running by Rickards RB #10 F. Griggs, took plenty of time off the clock. His efforts, however, were equally mirrored by East Gadsden RB/LB #21 M. Fryson, who along with QB’s #7 D. Garrett and and #10 T. Robinson, provided a bright spot for the Jaguars.

Wakulla-NFC football game canceled

By Jim Lamar • DEMOCRAT SPORTS EDITOR • September 16, 2009

Friday night’s football game between Wakulla High School and North Florida Christian School has been canceled. NFC coach Tim Cokely said Wakulla coach Scott Klees called him earlier today and told him that the Wakulla team had too many players sick with the flu this week to play the game.

Though the flu has spread to members of the football team, Wakulla County Superintendent of Schools David Miller said there are no plans to cancel classes at the high school because of the flu.

“Our attendance rate is above 90 percent,” Miller said.
