Three-sport star commits to play football at FIU
By Will Brown • Democrat Staff Writer • January 26, 2010
Once Bryan Robinson is able to commit to just one sport, he is going to be something to see.
Anyone interested in witnessing Robinson’s growth as a football player will have to travel down to South Florida, as the East Gadsden defensive end committed to play for Florida International University over the weekend.
Robinson lettered in basketball and track in high school, but will focus on the pigskin in college.
“Basketball helped me with the running and the focus,” Robinson said. “Track helps me with my speed. In doing the shot put, it helps me with my skills in football, especially with pass rushing.”
After missing nearly half his junior season with an injury, the physically imposing Robinson registered 67 total tackles nine sacks and forced three fumbles in 2009.
Robinson’s head coach Scott Anderson marveled at the three-sport letterman’s athleticism stating the Golden Panthers staff has obtained a commitment from someone who has yet to hit his physical peak.
“Once he can focus on one sport and get in the weight room and on a training regimen, he really has an opportunity to be something special as a defensive end,” Anderson said. “He has a great frame and a great gene pool.”
Robinson comes from a family of athletes. His father Clifford was a two-sport letterman in high school, an uncle played baseball at Jacksonville University, another uncle, Ricardo Shaw, ran track and first cousin Andre plays beside him in the East Gadsden frontcourt.
Florida International won out over Middle Tennessee State, Florida Atlantic and Florida A&M for Robinson’s verbal commitment. The deciding factor was head coach Mario Cristobal and his staff made the six-foot-four-inch defensive

Rickards rolls to a strong win over East Gadsden: 34 – 6
The Rickards Raiders took advantage of the offensive miscue’s made by the East Gadsden Jaguars en route to a commanding 34 – 6 victory on Friday night at Gene Cox Stadium.
After halftime, it had been all Raiders as they lead the Jaguars 20 – 0 on the shifty moves of Raider QB #4 T. Johnson. Also in on the action for the Rickards offense were WR #8 B. Denmark and WR #2 J. Bush. There was plenty of hard-hitting action as both teams were looking to make big plays and capitalize on the others mistakes.

In the end the Raiders proved to be too much for the Jaguars as time ticked away late in the 4th quarter. Powerful running by Rickards RB #10 F. Griggs, took plenty of time off the clock. His efforts, however, were equally mirrored by East Gadsden RB/LB #21 M. Fryson, who along with QB’s #7 D. Garrett and and #10 T. Robinson, provided a bright spot for the Jaguars.

4Quartersonline Preseason Ranking 14-11

11
11. East Gadsden (Jaguars) 50pts ; When you get to the middle of the rankings most of the teams are interchangeable. The Jaguars received votes as high as 7th and as low as 12th. No voter had them in the same place. Last season the Jaguars barely missed the playoffs, losing in the play-in game against Rickards. This team could very well be a top 10 team by the end of the season. With RB Montez Fryson and NG Kelvin Ray leading the Jaguars they could pull a few upsets.

12
12. Chiles (Timberwolves) 48pts; Last season the Timberwolves went 0-10, I don’t think new head coach Burney Myers will allow this group to repeat that. With weapons like Jaron Williams and Transfer (Pompano Beach Ely) WR Andre Gayle on offense junior QB Bert Givens will be more than able to move the ball. Standout defender D.J. Price will force Offensive Coordinators to account for him all night long.

13
13. Taylor County (Bulldogs) 42pts;With a record of 3-7 last season, the Bulldogs look to improve with Quarterback Ty Crowley at the helm. District competition is stiff and will be a big challenge. WR Reggie King and RB Tony Jackson are the headliners for the Bulldogs and coach Boggs will depend heavily on them to lead his team.

14
14. Jefferson County (Tigers) 30pts;New coaching staff, enthusiastic team coupled with athletic players should make for a fun season for the Tigers. RB DeVondrick Nealy along with DB David Cromity and FAMU High Transfer DB Marquise Dobson will give opponents a lot to deal with. I don’t look for them to stay at 14.

Tallahassee Area 2009 District Predictions 2B
4Quartersonline Staff
Class: 2B – District: 2
1. Fort White
2.Florida High ( Tallahassee )
3. Union County ( Lake Butler )
4. East Gadsden ( Havana )
5.Taylor County (Perry)
6.Bradford (Starke)
This one is tough. East Gadsden, Florida High, Fort White and Union County are all good enough to take district 2 2B title. But I guess someone has to win it. Here goes’: Fort White will finish with a 9-1 record, losing only to Madison County. Now with the Cowboys out of the way, the Indians are poised to take the district. The battle for second should be fierce, but look for Florida High to slide in as the runner-up.
