The Godby Cougars had an impressive night lead by rising senior Lovorie Johnson and a rock solid defense. The cougars came up a little short last season losing in overtime to Cocoa Beach, but if last night is any measurement, the cougars are poised to make a run back to the title game. Johnson scored 4 touchdowns on the night and rushes for close to 200 yards

In the opening game Godby’s defense blanked  the Wakulla War Eagles 14-0 in one half, with two scores from Johnson and a defense that only allowed Wakulla across midfield once and even then wouldn’t allow them to cross the goal line.

The second Game the lions flex their muscles, lead by rising senior Eric Williams and a dominating offensive line scoring 21 points in the 1st quarter. Williams scored on runs of 5,29 and 54 yards. Williams had to leave the game with an injury and did not play in the 2 quarter. The War Eagles finally woke up scoring 12 points but fell short of their come back bid as time ran out. The Lions won 21-12

The finale game of the night pit the Leon Lions against the Godby Cougars , the William less Lions were no match for the cougars. Johnson once again ran up and down the field scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter pacing Godby to 24 -0 victory.

Tuesday afternoon 4quartersonline visited the practice of the Leon Lions and Head Coach Bill Ragans .This spring is an interesting one for the Lions after a 7-3 record and a second round playoff loss; the Lions had their best season in 4 years. The task of replacing the class of 2009, which included D1 signees Austin Dantin (Toledo), James Green (Tennessee) , C.J. Mizzel (FSU) and Andrew Carter ( Illinois), is important if the Lions are to have a chance of advancing  further in the playoffs.

This years Lions’ roster has a couple of familiar faces; rising seniors RB/DB Eric Williams and OL/DB Mack Helms. Williams did it all for the Lions last season by running, receiving and playing corner. He will have to step it up this season to replace offensive weapons Dantin and Green. Helms will anchor on both sides of the line at tackle and nose guard, he is expected to lead the newcomers on the line .  Others to watch  would be  offensive lineman rising senior, John Holt and on the defense, rising seniors defensive ends James Dixion and Darryl Sanders. Even though the defense will miss Mizzel and Carter, Coach  Ragans who is a defensive  specialist should have the lions ready.

Look for Coach Ragans to have his team ready to compete for a district title and make a run in the playoffs this season. He will definitely be leaning heavily on his senior leadership.
