It may have just been a preseason game for the coaching staffs, but for the average “football-starved” local sports fan it was the real deal. Visiting Wakulla downed Leon at Gene Cox stadium 34-3 to open the 2015 season with a bang. The highly touted War Eagles, who are nationally ranked, jumped out to a big 20-3 first half lead over the Lions. The Wakulla offensive line was impressive in the win as they created plenty of running room for the War Eagle backs.

The 2nd quarter was highlighted by two touchdown runs by Antonio Morris. Both teams played it safe in the preseason contest with limited passing, each relying on a conservative run game. Wakulla standout quarterback and LSU commit, Feleipe Franks was not active but his backup Bucky McGlamry saw plenty of action adding a rushing score of his own. While the War Eagles looked as if they were in midseason form, the fumble prone Lions couldn’t seem to find any rhythm on offense as turnovers and miscues killed several drives.

The first week of the regular season begins next week as Wakulla takes on Spartanburg (S.C.) at home in a nationally televised game on ESPN, while Leon opens against Suwannee at Gene Cox Stadium.
